Scrap Recycling
At Tri-Arrows, when we send aluminum rolls out to our clients, we patiently wait for it to make its way back to us, because we are one of the largest scrap buyers in the industry, buying an average of ______ pounds each year. As one of the most sustainable and efficient manufacturers of aluminum sheet, our favorite way to obtain metal is to buy it back from our customers to allow them to share in the value of aluminum’s sustainability. We then transform it back into sheet and send it out into the world again for another round-trip.
Between 2016-2017 alone, Tri-Arrows invested $160 million in building a new recycling and remelt facility at Logan called DC4. This new facility allows us to accept a wide variety of inputs at various levels of contamination, whether it be recycled aluminum, used beverage cans (UBCs), or pure aluminum. Like mixing a cake, we take all of the raw materials, remove impurities, melt the cleaned aluminum down, and then filter it to help it reach a finely tuned specification before transforming it into ingots and eventually into rolled sheet.
The fascinating fact is that aluminum can be recycled a million times, and you’ll still end up with the same amount of material! In addition, aluminum cans actually make municipal recycling programs possible. The high value of aluminum in the recycling stream essentially subsidizes the recycling of less valuable materials in the bin, keeping these programs running. Need more incentive to recycle? In the U.S., we could power 4 million homes for an entire year with the energy we would save from recycling all of our aluminum cans. At Tri-Arrows, we love being a big part of the process that makes that possible.
