Operations Manager – Value Optimization

This role is accountable for insuring value creation in the manufacturing process with specific emphasis on the input materials.  This Operations Manager role is a key driver of profitability and cost containment through working cohesively with our Logan Aluminum personnel on all aspects of scrap receiving, inspection and blending with particular focus on recovery optimization. Through the utilization and development of systems and data analysis, he/she will be responsible for effectively managing the receiving, inspecting and proper inventory of these materials.  Leads the development of long term strategies related to operational performance of our scrap supply chain.

Essential Functions:

  • Strategically define, analyze, manage and implement best practices regarding the manufacturing process of input scrap through ingot output.
  • Leads, directs, and coaches DC4 scrap receiving - blending team’s / individual’s activities in coordination with optimized input usage strategies to drive the most value for the TAA business plan.
  • Identify and drive efficiencies regarding the storage and staging of material in proper areas to ensure easy to access and identification. Insure tracking of all material is accurate.
  • Continually identify, plan, and initiate methods to improve safety, productivity, and cost through material selection / utilization.
  • Leads the resolution of input excursion resolution and the impact on the manufacturing operations.
  • Engages with Production Scheduling processes to drive optimized use of metal input units tied to scheduled ingot output to meet customer specifications and production demands.
  • Develops cross functional team between Logan and TAA to drive focused, consistent, and repeatable execution of TAA metal usage strategies.  
  • Develop, maintains, and cultivates relationships with current suppliers and operational interfaces. 
  • Develop new concepts and systems with the manufacturing facility that allow for more efficient and timely information exchange to further the optimization of materials and operational activities.
  • Elevates supplier issues that cannot be resolved at the supplier or in the supplier/manufacturing facility interface.
  • Leads development of systems that drives long term value creation through our material supply chain.
  • Special tasks and projects as required by TAA and Consortium.  Works with VP of Operations on developing clear updates on work activities between TAA, Logan, and Consortium to enhance understanding of these metal input value optimization efforts.

Position Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree in Engineering or related field required.  MBA or supplemental business education desired.
  • 10+ years of experience managing and leading aspects of a complex manufacturing system.
  • Extensive knowledge of aluminum scrap, costs, chemistries and recoveries.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in aspects of capacity / production planning.
  • Clear communications with both English and non-English speaking constituents. 
  • Demonstrated collaborative approach to leadership and problem solving.
  • Ability to work independently as part of a larger team with high degree of accountability for delivering results.
  • Demonstrate a strong desire to achieve results.
  • Ability to travel extensively (approximately 30%-50%) to our Logan Aluminum operations and scrapyards, etc.
