Can recycling rate increases again

Americans and the aluminum industry recycled 58.1% of all aluminum cans produced in 2009. This reflects close to a 4 percent increase over the 2008 rate.

In the United States, 96.6 billion cans were produced in 2009. The billion aluminum cans recycled equals 1.6 billion pounds. The recycling rate of 58 percent amounts to more than twice the recycling rate for beverage packages of other materials.
